Beaumont, TX

The city of Beaumont serves as the seat of Jefferson County in Southeast Texas. It’s located about 85 miles east of Houston on the Neches River, along Interstate 10 not far from the Louisiana border. Beaumont covers almost 83 square miles of land with a population nearing 120,000 people.

The land was first settled in 1835, and Beaumont was incorporated shortly thereafter in 1838. Following the famous Spindletop gusher of 1901, several energy companies developed in Beaumont, and the area soon became one of the country’s major petro-chemical refining regions. Various corporations have been based in the city over the years, which is also home to Lamar University. The Beaumont Commercial District is a collection of historic buildings in the downtown area, and Edison Plaza stands as Beaumont’s tallest building.
