Vidor, TX
The city of Vidor, TX, is located in western Orange County, six miles east of Beaumont along Interstate 10. Incorporated in 1960 and a home rule city since 1967, Vidor covers 10.6 square miles of land in Southeast Texas near the scenic Neches River, home to a current population approaching 11,000 people.
The city was named for lumberman Charles Shelton Vidor, co-founder of the Miller-Vidor Timber Company and father of film director King Vidor. By the early 20th century almost all Vidor residents worked in the lumber industry. Today, Vidor serves mainly as a bedroom community for nearby refining complexes in Beaumont and Port Arthur. The city maintains a diverse mix of small businesses, under the motto the “Crossroads to Southeast Texas.”
